“Réseaux” Database

This database is part of the “Networks and sociability at court” research programme led by the Centre de recherche du château de Versailles, under the direction of its Scientific Director, Mathieu da Vinha.

The aim of this tool is to be able to enter and analyse prosopographic data that will shed light on networks and sociability within the Court of France in the 17th and 18th centuries. The Centre de recherche du château de Versailles aims to understand the networks that were formed within the Court, notably by studying the classification of roles, their history and how they were transmitted in an attempt to understand both the mechanisms of social ascension and the hierarchy of the royal houses.

The chronological field covered will span from the reign of Louis XIV to the end of the Louis XVI period. The data will be compiled based on lists of roles within the royal houses of the Court of France and the various figures who held them and will be supplemented by biographical information and information on the various types of links established between people, the aim being to examine and visualise the networks within the court.

This database will be accessible via the Centre’s resource portal.
