Creation and online publication of a historic repository of France under the Ancien Régime (2016…)

The objective is to create and subsequently make available to the social and human sciences community a repository of France under the Ancien Régime.

This repository is established from the indexations of the digital edition of articles relating to the musical life and performances from the Mercure galant programme run by the IReMus institute, led by Anne Piéjus, and the indexes from the biographical database of the Centre de recherche du château de Versailles as well as the research conducted there.

This repository, which offers the first synoptic overview of France under the Ancien Régime, organises the concepts into three main categories:

• names;
• institutions, corporations and companies;
• places.

In order to create a dialogue with ongoing and upcoming projects, names are aligned with VIAF, ISNI and data.bnf, and places with Geonames.org and Des villages de Cassini aux communes d’aujourd’hui.

The IReMus is developing a semantic infrastructure for managing historical scientific data based on the CIDOC-CRM ontology. The data will be published through a public SPARQL endpoint and a web interface allowing thematic, historical and geographical exploration of the data.
