Digital Grand Versailles

To enable the general public to understand and follow the master plan of the Établissement public du Musée et du domaine national de Versailles (E.P.V.), the Research Centre put forward the idea of a website combining scientific rigour with technological innovation. The Ministry of Culture and Communication and the E.P.V. assigned the building of this showcase website, intended as an experimental laboratory, to the Mission de la recherche et de la technologie (MRT) and the Centre de recherche du château (CRCV). The E.P.V. will henceforth be responsible for maintenance and further development.

During this experimental phase, the MRT and the CRCV have been responsible for:

  • the design, drafting and project management of the showcase website. On 15 October 2006, this site, online since 21 June 2006, received the Innovation Prize at the 14th Prix Möbius international multimedia festival in Montreal.
  • the organising, between September 2005 and February 2006, of seven discussion workshops, for which technology companies, public institutions, regional authorities and universities worked together to devise new approaches to innovative technologies and their application to culture. These workshops ended with a seminar, Places of Culture and New Digital Practices, held at Versailles on 8 November 2006.

In addition, Wi-Fi and podcasting experiments, linked to the GVN project and carried out by the E.P.V., were facilitated thanks to a grant from the D.I.A.C.T.(Délégation interministérielle à l’aménagement et à la compétitivité des territoires) obtained by the Research Centre.
